Both Physical Therapy (PT) and Occupational Therapy (OT) have ancient roots leading us to today's values, that each person is entitled to achieve a better state of health.
Physical Therapy was first documented in China around 3000 BC with the use of joint manipulation and massage to relieve pain. Hippocrates is believed to be the first practitioner of physical therapy, using massage and hydrotherapy in 460 BC treating wounded Roman Gladiators.
Occupational Therapy has ancient roots as far back as 100 BCE. The Greek Physician, Asclepiades, is believed to be the first to use therapeutic baths, massage, exercise and music.
The goal of therapy, whether Physical (PT) or Occupational (OT), is to improve mobility, restore function, reduce pain, and prevent further injury to help you achieve independence in all areas of your life.
What You Need, Where You Need It.
- Commitment—something that takes up time
- Movement—a change in place or position
- Flexibility—responsive to change
- Independence—able to function by self
- Confidence—certain of having the ability
- Goal—a dream with a deadline
- Obstacle—something in the way
- Success - something that turns out well
Your Commitment to Movement will increase your Flexibility, allowing you to be Independent, which will build your Confidence so you can reach your Goals by removing the Obstacles, which will lead to your Success.
